Kundalini Yoga Initiation by Guru Sitarasu

To practise G.P. Mahan’s Kundalini Yoga, a person must be properly initiated by a guru who is well-versed in the technique of awakening the Kundalini. This is very important as initiation by any other means can lead to adverse effects.

Anyone above the age of 25 can be initiated into G.P. Mahan’s Kundalini Yoga. In order to practise G.P. Mahan’s Kundalini Yoga effectively, one must not smoke or consume alcoholic drinks. The initiation consists of three stages carried out over three weeks.

The First Stage

The individual must wash his (her) face, hands and feet first and sit comfortably on a chair. The back must be kept erect, eyes closed and both hands placed on the lap with the fingers interlaced.

The guru then taps the base of the disciple’s spinal cord and, with his (the guru’s) power, awakens the dormant Kundalini energy. The awakened energy is raised up the spinal column to the disciple’s back-head eye (also known as the eye of the nape). From here, it is taken to the top-head eye (also known as the crest eye). Finally, the Kundalini energy is taken to the forehead eye of the individual. This is literally the opening of the Third Eye.

[The so-called Third Eye is actually a very tiny hole situated inside the forehead between the two eyebrows at the top of the nose. There is a thin tissue covering this hole and when the Kundalini energy touches this particular spot, the tissue disintegrates. This is the actual opening of the Third Eye but, contrary to popular belief, you won’t be able to perform amazing acts or see supernatural beings when your Third Eye is opened!

In many cultures, the Third Eye is referred to as the Eye of Wisdom. Some religious masters are known to have “opened” the forehead eye of their disciples in an elaborate manner, entailing the use of crude surgery.

Thanks to G.P. Mahan, potential disciples of Kundalini Yoga can have their forehead eye “opened” within minutes, with the help of a guru, and without the need for surgery of any kind!

Even scientists are beginning to establish that there is something more than meets the eye inside the forehead. Zoologists Dr Robin Baker and Ms Janice Mather of the University of Manchester in England have reportedly claimed that they have discovered a sixth sense organ which allows people to find their way like carrier pigeons.

After dissecting 14 human corpses and numerous mice, they established that this organ is located just “inside the forehead between the eyes”. They described this organ as a kind of magnetic compass.]

During the first stage of initiation, the guru also strikes a bell and encourages the individual to receive the sound vibrations through his forehead eye. Usually, the individual is given a sweet or candy to consume and is told to perceive its sweetness through his/her forehead eye.

For the first three days after initiation, the initiated individual is advised to do the following: apply mild pressure to his/her jaws by biting the teeth and using the tip of the tongue to touch the roof of the palette while concentrating on his/her forehead eye.

Concentration on the forehead eye can be likened to seeing pointedly through a small hole or passing a thread through the eye of a small needle.

For 14 days after the first stage of initiation, the disciples must:
• Meditate for 15 minutes twice a day;
• Concentrate their thought on the forehead eye all day while performing routine tasks like eating, answering the call of nature, listening to music, travelling, and working. When travelling in a car, bus or train, they must try to absorb the sound vibrations of the engine through the forehead eye;
• Abstain from sexual relations; and
• Eat nutritious food.

Disciples may experience a slight headache, giddiness and warmth in the body. Their appetite may increase. They may feel a mild pressure being exerted on their forehead or a quivering or ticklish sensation. They may also feel a slight heaviness on their forehead, equivalent to the weight of a drop of mercury.

Disciples may find their forehead becoming a little oily and, after six or seven days, the ticklish sensation on their forehead may become more intense.

The Second Stage

The second stage takes place after 14 days of observing the first stage. The disciples, after cleansing themselves, are made to sit comfortably on a chair, with their back erect and head up. By the touch of the guru, the Kundalini energy is redirected to its original place (at the base of the spine or sacral point).

For six days after the second stage of initiation, the disciples are asked to direct their concentration and thought to this spot, at the base of the spine. Since it is quite difficult to switch one’s thought from the forehead eye to the sacral point, the disciples are encouraged to attach a dried Casuarina seed at this spot. The somewhat prickly nature of the seed serves as a reminder to the disciples to focus their thought on the sacral point.

During these six days, the disciples may experience a sensation similar to water dripping down a thread. They may also have numbness of the legs or experience a sensation akin to an ant moving on the body. A feeling of warmth will also be experienced.

Disciples may also feel some pain in the hips, and experience headaches and extreme hunger. The body may also produce phlegm. If one has piles, it may be aggravated but it’ll eventually disappear. High blood pressure can also be reduced. If women disciples menstruate during the second stage, many diseases will disappear.

Disciples are advised to eat good and nutritious food and sleep soundly. Married couples can resume their sexual relationship.

The Third Stage

The third stage is performed on the 21st day after the first day of initiation. The disciple, after cleansing himself/herself, sits down before the guru. The guru, standing at a distance of eight feet from the disciple, instructs him/her to look into his (the guru’s) eyes without winking for about 10 seconds.

The guru then advances forward and, while fixing his gaze on the eyes of the disciple, arouses the Kundalini energy from the base of the spinal cord and directs it upwards along the spinal column to the back of the head (eye of the nape), and then to the top of the head (crest eye).

The guru then touches the top of the head of the disciple, making a circling movement with his fingers. For male disciples, the movement is done in a clockwise direction while for women, it is anti-clockwise. This heralds the opening of the crest eye. At this stage, the disciple may experience some sort of feeling inside the top of the head.

The third stage is also known as the cleansing or purification step. The circling movement performed by the guru can be compared to the movement of a wet snake confined in a cage or the melting of butter or the sensation of fine sand drifting down slowly from a heap. It can also be compared to the motion of a very mild typhoon or water sprouting from a fountain.
